Watch Out Oprah and Gayle, Tracie and Pete Started Their Own Book Club

Reading just got even cooler with the creation of the Professional Development Book Club. Y'all probably figured out that I'm a bit of a nerd since I attended and worked at Northwestern so why try to hide it anymore?  I read so much when I was little, I had to get these super cool glasses!  I thought ditching the glasses and coming to Old Hat might make me cooler, but you can't take the nerd out of the girl.

We're going virtual with the club, which means we will meet the last Wednesday of every month to discuss the book of the month using the hashtag #PDBookClub.  The discussion begins at 11 am Eastern.  We decided to buck the trend of the Twitter chats that happen at night because we believe you need to make time for profesisional development so we are here to hold each other accountable to do just that.  The plan is to ask one question at the top of every hour until 4 pm Eastern.  This will give everyone enough time to check in and join the conversation when it's convenient for them. This will also help people who couldn't join in real time, so when you go back to read the transcript, it's as organized as possible.  We're so excited about the club that @PolarBearPete and I have already been checking in with people to see if they are enjoying the book, so you can search the tag right now and find something worthwhile any time.  Well, we'll only guarantee something worthwhile part of the time.

Our first book is Social BOOM by Jeffrey Gitomer, whose staff member started following us on Twitter after a few smart tweets by Pete.  We put Ditomer's words into action again by creating a Book Club LinkedIn Group that gave us a place to share book recommendations throughout the year in addition to our book of the month.  Everyone is welcome! We are thrilled with the number of people who have joined us already.  This book club is gonna set the literary world on fire!
