This Week In Sports History

This Week in 1995- Gary Payton was the first NBA player to wear a pair of rubber gloves during a game.

Hello everyone!  I was originally going to continue on my nerd topic, but last week I had an emergency procedure done.  For the last month, I have been in and out of the doctor's office trying to diagnose my stomach problems.  Every time I ate it felt like someone was clawing out my insides.   Over the past year my diet has slowly changed from eating fast-food  and drinking Mt. Dew's to eating sub sandwiches.   One of the main reasons was greasy foods seemed to react worse than non-greasy foods.  So I thought it would be wise to cut pop out of my diet completely and drink only tea, water, milk, or 100% juice.

So next spring I may be teaching a Web Course during the evening at my old college.  The details are not fully worked out yet so nothing is for sure, but I thought it would be a good idea to start collecting my thoughts for a beginning web design course, and guess what?! You get to be the first to see it... please try not to fall asleep... haha

Turn on some corny educational film music and take a break from painting that fence with lead based paint.  Now you may be asking yourself, "What is the web?", well you are in luck, cause you are on it.  No.  Not in the physical sense of your body being on top of it, but in the fact that you are reading from it at this very moment...  Bet you didn't know that. ;)  The web is a network of computers that communicate with each other by sharing HTML documents.

Okay so it's time for my blog again, but I have absolutely nothing useful to say, so you get to see what I did for the last two weekends! Sounds like fun... right?! hint hint wink wink....

So I just recently bought my first house.  It's great! Only problem was the backyard had two ugly and completely useless trees right in the middle, plus they were causing damage to my patio concrete.  So I decide to dig them up.  The first one was a breeze.  Took me about 30 minutes, but the second one was a stubborn one.  I believe it was a cottonwood... thankfully, that meant it had really soft branches and roots.  The old owners had already cut the top off of this tree once, but failed to finish the job.  The tree grew back and there were a bunch of sprouts going every which way.

I don't know if any of you are sports fans out there ;) but if you missed last night's OKC Thunder, you missed an absolute awesome game!  The Thunder were ahead at half but then trailed much of the third quarter.  They regained the lead in the final moments of the third quarter.  The Dallas Mavs would not give up though as Carter hit the go ahead shot with only 1.4 seconds left.  Thunder fans were shocked as they hoped to have already won the game.  The Thunder inbounded the ball to Kevin Durant where he drained a very long 3 for the win!  You know what just watch it.  It's a lot better that way!

So I thought it would be fun to dream a little today, seeing as I am half asleep this Monday morning anyways.  I was going to title this "If I was Rich" but it's only a matter of time until I hit it big.  :D  What would you do if you had all the money you would ever need and could spend it anyway you wanted?

Web development, softball, golf, hunting, fishing... These are all things most people know I like to do, but there is another one to add to this list that few may know about me.  I love to cook.  I'm not too much into the cleaning up part afterwards, but boy do I ever enjoy making a mess while concocting  some tasty treats.  With the weather cooling down (I'm hoping) and football season almost here, the urge for some really good chili comes to mind.

Scorching temperatures, rough ball fields, and teams going head to head in the State Church ASA Softball tournament, equal beat up and worn out softball players.  The location was Lawton, Oklahoma's McMahon Park.  The tournament began for my team, St. Mark's Catholic Church from Norman last Friday night 9pm.  First team we played against was from "Anadarko".  I'm using quotes there because there is very good support that majority of the team if not the whole team plays for an open league team in Oklahoma City.  Sad that there were several teams that could easily fallen into that category... I'm no expert and I have no clue if the team I am about to mention is truly a church team, but I have never heard of a church called the "Lumber Jacks".  Just seemed kind of strange.

Well I really don't have any specific topic to talk about today but I do have a couple things I would like to share.

The first of these items is the fact that I posted the pics for my past blog, about a week later.  If you missed them, as I suspect most did, you can check out some of my photos of the May 3rd, 1999 Tornado that hit in Moore, OK, here

The second was to talk about a new game which was a lot of fun to create, but it is a few days from launching and I do not want to spoil the surprise.  Let's just say that you may want to start brushing up on these lyrics:

In the midst of last night's tornado outbreak in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas and the devastation earlier this week of Joplin, Missouri tornado, people are coming together to help and aid each other in many ways.  I personally have seen this hospitality in the wake of the May 3rd, 1999 tornado after it hit my neighborhood.  My house was not totaled but many of the items next to our windows were and our roof was twisted.  We took cover in the storm shelter next door, when it hit.  Glass and debris striking all of us it powerfully roared overhead.  The wind began to calm and the debris stopped.   We climbed out of the cellar to a jaw dropping site.  The entrance to the safe room was in the back closet of the house, once we open the door to the living room we could see half a mile down the road.

Well for those of you who have not had the pleasure of playing our latest game, "Due You Know Sports?", I highly recommend you check it out. It has surpassed all expectations I had while building the game.  With 535 unique visits to the site in the first week racking up a respectable 29,000 page views and a jaw dropping average of 6:38 minutes spent on the site.  Okay so you may not think 6:38 minutes on the site is that impressive, but when compared to the average hit only lasting 3-10 seconds for most web sites, it makes it look pretty good.
