As we head into the week of Thanksgiving, it's the perfect time to reach out to say thank you to people who have made a difference in your life, personally and professionally. With so many ways to do this now, text/email/IM/tweet/call/Facebook/Skype, it's easier than ever. There's no reason not to reach out to someone everyday. It doesn't have to be a grand gesture. Just a quick thought letting someone know that you appreciate them is touching regardless of the avenue you take to do it.
I personally love giving handwritten notes because it's awesome to receive them. I hope the people I send them to feel the same way. I try to mail a few every week to different people in my life. Getting a card when you aren't expecting it is that much better. I also hold on to the cards people send me. I glance at them every once in awhile, more than I do with other forms of communication. It makes an impression that lasts longer than the others too.
The cards I receive from young sports pros not only stand out, but also make an impact on who I am. They thank me for helping them, but really they are helping me too. My friends who have been in the business for awhile also suprise me with notes. I don't always realize that a conversation we have makes a difference, but the truth is, we never stop leaning on people. And when we do, we need to let them know that we are grateful.
