This Week In Sports History

This Week in 1986- The live mascot for the Toronto Blue Jays flew south for the winter, and decided to stay in St. Louis thereafter.

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYBODY!! And a very happy College Baseball Opening Day!! We wrapped up production this week on a few Intro Videos that will be debuting today. I can't wait to share them with you in the following weeks. For now, I'll share a few extreme sport videos that I am loving. Be sure to watch them in their full screen HD glory otherwise you might make Dustin cry.

So, yeah, this first one is a Red Bull commercial, but it's shot beautifully and the continuity in the editing is great. I'm having a total video-nerd moment here. I'd like to thank Tracie (aka Liz Taylor) for her contribution to this commercial's creation, for her years of loyalty to the Red Bull brand.

Hey everyone! I've finally managed to find time to get the photo gallery up from NSF last week. If you were at the Old Hat Creative / OKC Thunder bash at the Chesapeake Arena last Tuesday and you stopped in for a photo then be sure to go check it out here. Some photos may have been omitted to protect the innocent.

(For the record, Bud Light Lime is probably my very last choice of drink. And in this case it was the last thing available, so there ya go.)

(Chris Jericho walks out in a sequined, self-lit jacket.)

• Last night I went to see the WWE in Oklahoma City at the Chesapeake arena. The WWE understands how to entertain like you wouldn't believe. I'm convinced that no one puts on a better show than these guys. Seriously.

Before you dismiss all this as some kind of WWE fanboy talk, let me just say that I don't watch it on TV and I've never been to a WWE live event. But I got the opportunity to check one out and I was incredibly impressed.

A few things I took away from the show.

Happy Friday everyone! As part of Tracie's Professional Development Book Club, I've been reading "Social BOOM" by Jeffrey Gitomer. I haven't finished yet, but so far he's made some great points about mastering social media. I want to take some time to post how I've been effective in the space. Enjoy!

3 DO's

Hey everyone! I got a couple of questions regarding the last couple of Behind the Shot posts (here and here). Today I want to address some of the things that were going on in Photoshop, specifically one of the plug-ins I use when editing photos.

One of the things I try to do with most of my pics is to remove the "look" of a digital capture through a variety of techniques and tricks in Photoshop and Lightroom. However, even though I love the look of film I have no desire to go back to mixing developer, stringing up negatives and waiting hours for things to dry or even working in the darkroom to make each individual print.

Thanks very much to everyone that commented on the Behind the Shot with Kevin Durant post last week. I've been really impressed and flattered with the response it's been getting. I had no idea that Kevin Durant guy was such a big deal. ;)

I had a couple of other photos this past year that I was pretty happy with, so today I'd like to focus on a job that was shot for The University of Michigan and their football campaign.

Michigan came to us early in the summer to start discussing their direction for the 2011 football season. It was decided that the tagline for the year was going to be "This Is Michigan" after the instant classic Brady Hoke quote.

Have you ever had a celebrity sighting that wasn't? I was 1-out-2 on celebrity sightings during our many many Old Hat on-location shoots this last year. We DID see Bobby Brown on our layover in Chicago en route to South Bend, Indiana. He was with some lady who wasn't Whitney Houston. It would have been more exciting if she had been there, but I probably would've been seriously disappointed if she didn't act anything like Mya Rudolph's impression of her on SNL:

Ok, I admit it. I'm a failure as a blogger.

Last week I promised you a Photo Top Ten from 2011 and not only did I fail to deliver but I didn't even blog on Thursday. Honestly I totally forgot I was going to be out of the office for a couple of days and I just didn't get it put together. Fast forward to Tuesday and I still don't have it for you.

The fact is that I was out of town this past weekend to photograph a good friend's wedding and between all of the general craziness that acommpanies that, and traveling back and forth, it didn't get done. So my only promise is to try very hard to get some more photo stuff up in the next couple of days.

In my defense the pictures from the wedding turned out very well.

I hope everyone out there had a wonderful holiday, welcome back to the working world.

Since I don't have a tv I try to read a lot. This happens whenever I pull myself away from the internet long enough to crack a book. Thankfully I have some good choices that just came in.

• I've been reading Sketching Light by Joe McNally since yesterday. Super cool book that I just got in the mail, kind of an extra Christmas present to myself. No need for a review, if you take photographs just go buy it and learn some stuff.

Hi everyone! With threats of snow and consistent cold weather here in Oklahoma, (something I’m still getting used to) it’s clear that the holiday (or the generic term: winter) season is upon us.

One of our marketing activities during these holidays has been the Old Hat 15 Days of Christmas (ironic that I came up with the name and I’m Jewish). The hashtag #OH15Days has taken off, a lot more than I expected it to, so I hope you all benefited from it. I’m not sure if anything like this has been done in the past, so it’s a little surreal to think about how influential it has been and could be. Outside of the tips from all of our staff, I’d like everyone to take away three things:
