This Week In Sports History

This Week in 1995- Gary Payton was the first NBA player to wear a pair of rubber gloves during a game.

Hello everyone! I hope you had a fantastic mother's day weekend. I spent mine volunteering at the University of Oklahoma Baseball series. While helping out the OU Marketing staff, I learned quite a bit about the flow of the game, through the music and sound effects.

Friday's game had been rained out, so we had a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 2PM. Normally when I volunteer I just help out with the in-game promotions, whether it's throwing out t-shirts, picking out the Whataburger Fan of the Game, finding someone to finish a movie line, you know, the standard stuff. The first game went into extra innings, where OU beat Baylor in the 10th inning. Half way through the second game, I asked Jamaal, the Assistant Director of Marketing at OU who's in charge of baseball, this:

"Could you teach me how to do the music?"

Happy Friday everybody and May the Fourth be with you today. It's hard to believe we're already at the end of week 1 of HuMAYliation. Your support thus far has been pretty incredible and I'm excited for what you're going to see in the upcoming weeks if we keep up the pace with donations. It's like pledge month here at OH. Just substitute the traditional cool tote bag for a dude ordering food with his hand. Here are some fun facts about the HuMAYliations from Week 1 and some teasers for next week.

1. 90% of the time Jake honked it was at pretty girls.

2. Jared the pretty princess is a pretty big metal fan.

3. Dane is still talking with his hand and that voice.

4. Most of the office is refusing to eat french fries with Dane now.

This weekend was the most nerve-racking and fearful weekend I've had since I moved to Norman in August. As you may know, I was born and raised in Southern California, the land of celebrities, traffic, and of course, earthquakes (Oklahoma is the land of turnpikes, trains, and tornados (copyright Jake Schwartz)). As a student of the California education system, the science behind earthquakes and how to prepare for them was a topic in science classes and mandatory assemblies from elementary through high school. Needless to say, the Richter Scale was of no use to me this weekend, as we were in the path of a tornado.

We all see the world differently. Different life experiences, locations, adventures and attitudes shape how we interpret the environment around us.

One of the things I do in my job as a photographer is to try and help people see the world the way I see it. After all, that's what a photograph does. It's one person's interpretation of an event. One split second in time captured.

I didn't start taking pictures seriously until later in college. I'm not a photojournalist or a sports shooter. It took me that long to figure out how I wanted to shoot.

Two weeks ago was a really interesting day of work at Old Hat HQ. I'm sure a lot of you have seen our remake of Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" music video. Well here's some insight and a behind-the-scenes look at that shoot.

10 Things To Take Away From This Shoot

1. Dustin took on the persona of Burt Reynolds that day. Lots of gum chewing. I imagine wearing a dress, thigh highs, high heels and make up can make some dudes a bit uncomfortable.

2. Thigh highs were not made for really tall guys like Aaron. They were more like knee highs.

3. Robert really looked like Robert Palmer. Am I right or am I right?

4. Tricia only played the keyboard with three fingers. Now that's talent.

The latest issue of Thunder Magazine is out so I thought I'd talk a little bit about some of the photography I shot for it.

Above is the fold-out, detachable cover. We've done fold out covers before but this one is cool because it's double-sided. The reverse side is below. This way you can pick your favorite poster and put up either the front or the back.

I just funded this project and I'll be anxiously awaiting my own Galileo.

The possibilities for a product like this are endless. I can't wait to use it on client shoots. We really are living in a pretty amazing/exciting time to be creative.

If you want the full scoop on this Kickstarter project you can check it out here.

And while I'm twiddling my thumbs and watching the calendar for my Galileo to show...I'll be watching this.

Today I'll be headed out to the Thunder practice facility to take some photos of the newest Thunder acquisition, Derek Fisher.

The setup is going to be identical to the last time the Thunder traded for a new guy. Below is a shot of our setup from back when I headed out there to take photos of Lazar Hayward.

I think people are excited to have Derek here in OKC. Just to give you a little idea of how the process for a shoot like this goes, here's a timeline of how it came about.

8:00 a.m. - Read rumors about Derek Fisher's acquisition by the Thunder.

Hello everyone, happy Friday! There's been kind of a running gag at the office that there are a ton of great movies that I have never seen. Since I saw Forrest Gump for the first time this past week, I want to make a list of some of the movies I absolutely need to see.

1. Caddyshack

As a sports fan, this movie is an absolute must. Unfortunately, I have not gotten to see Bill Murray and Rodney Dangerfield play golf, yet.

2. Easy Rider

My dad is a car nut, so I've seen some awesome movies like Bullitt and French Connection, but not this Peter Fonda/Jack Nicholson classic.

• I see photo-a-day projects all the time but this one is truly extraordinary to me. A self-portrait everyday for the last 12 1/2 years...

Jeff Harris: 4,748 Self-Portraits and Counting from We Know Music on Vimeo.

• I'd kind of started a project of my own a couple of years back, but admittedly I'm not doing nearly as well as the aforementioned Jeff Harris.
