This Week In Sports History

This Week in 1995- Gary Payton was the first NBA player to wear a pair of rubber gloves during a game.

As most of you know, Old Hat is in the midst of what we call "HuMAYliation", a month-long event where we capture embarrassing moments on video and post for your viewing pleasure. The purpose of HuMAYliation is to raise funds for the Mary Abbott Children's House and the National Children's Alliance, organizations whose mission is to fight against child abuse. To me, this is also a great time to educate people on the signifigance of their donations and the impact they can make in childrens' lives.

Figured I'd keep it loose today and drop some random thoughts I've had as of late, so if you're expecting some mind-blowing post that makes you wanna go out and conquer the world... you might wanna wait for the next person.

• The Brooklyn Nets officially unveiled their new identity today, and dare I say, although several elements have grown on me, it lacks overall character... The Oklahoma City Thunder's secondary mark is more exciting, and that's saying somethin'! If you'd like to debate the matter, that's cool, but I'm gonna let you know in advance...

It's been an exciting couple weeks for me, with various events taking place in the sports world, so I just wanted to take a little time to recap what has gone down since the last time I've blogged.

Nike/ NFL Uniform Launch

Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.

Foreman: What'cha doin', Louie?

Louie: I'm sawin' these planks, boss... got a bunch of 'em to do!

Foreman: Ummmmm, yeah... Louie, I can't tell for sure from this angle but it looks like your saw's kinda dull.

Louie: Eyes of a hawk, boss... I seen better edges on butter-knives!

Foreman: Ummmm, yeah... so tell me, Louie, if you don't mind my askin'... why don'cha sharpen the saw, then?

Louie: Oh, I can't do that now, boss... I'm too busy cuttin' these planks!

Well folks, the 2011 College Football season has come to an end, and what better way to reminisce than to take a look back at some of the highlights, lowlights, and uniforms that, whether for better or worse, had the internet abuzz.

Foxsports.com has done me quite the favor by compiling a ton of imagery in slideshow form: http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/lists/college-football-strange-2011-uniforms-090511#photo-title=How%20sweet%20are%20those?&photo=30519007 , but I'll be providing commentary about trends I've recognized in the market, what I feel may have a long shelf life, and some trends that need to be erased from our memories with the assistance of this little guy:

What up!!!

When I first thought about writing this post, I thought long and hard how I was going to inform people about my credentials and the sheer excitement I have for creating your next (and hopefully LAST) brand, identity, typeface, etc.  Although those things may be true, the last thing I want to do is scare you off by trying to sell you on something. What I will do, however, is do my best to give you a little insight about WHY I’m excited about creating identities, typefaces, etc.

I figured I’d approach this blog post with another Top-Ten list, but when I really got down to the nitty gritty, there was no way I could condense the list of films that defined my childhood down that much. I figured twenty was a little more reasonable... so here we are. In order to do this properly, I used the age of 13 as my cutoff, since you’re technically no longer a child at that point. These movies are listed in no particular order, and if you feel there are any I’ve forgotten, feel free to smack me upside the head… On second thought, you might not wanna do that. If you’re not aware, this is what could possibly happen if you take that chance.

So I've spent the last couple days thinking of blog-worthy ideas... Top-Ten lists, flowery poetry, thoughts about design, etc. etc. etc. What I've decided to do is ramble on about things that interest, intrigue, and just plain irk me.

• Business is pickin' up at Old Hat... I've been a logo designing fool as of late!

•Speaking of fools, my laughing Skeletor t-shirt should be arriving any day now... YEAH BUDDY!!!

• The NFL season is back on... and surprisingly, I'm not too sure how I feel about that. Usually not too excited about grown men publicly bicker over money for months... especially when it's millionaires and billionaires.

• Also, don't know how I feel about rooting for my Buckeyes this season... this past year's been a tough pill to swallow. I'm sure my feelings will change soon, as my itch for contact sport will surely need to be scratched!

Hey folks!

Sorry I'm late for my blog posting, but on the bright side, I get to give a big shout out to my friends Andy and Debra Sterlachini. Their wedding was June 25th and everyone had a blast the entire weekend.

Also, I celebrated my two-year anniversary with my girlfriend Alicia (pronounced Uh-liss-ee-yah) on the 26th. Time flies when you're having fun, and as you can tell by the picture, there's no shortage of that.

Later y'all!!!
